If its 80 db or above in the car, you will suffer Permanente hearing loss. Nothing will bring it back and it is time weighted as well. I'd at least put a glass pack on and route it beyond your rear bumper.

Well, looks like im totally fu**ed then.. my car had, and probably will have again, a straight pipe.. and my truck, lets just say you can get 145 dB out of the stereo. and thats only with the 12's hooked up. its probably 8-10 dB louder with the 15 in it also. im kinda wonderin how long my ears are gonna last? its a common thing to get out of my truck and just hear RRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG for about the next 2 hours (or more)

and as for your straight pipe, i would cut it clear off and build some 2.5 the rest of the way back. my next exhaust is gonna be at least 2.5, and its just gonna have a tiny 12" long glass pack. just to kill some of the drone. ive got a flowmaster 40 series on it right now and it sounds really good, but i lost 3 psi when i put it on. so im thinking a shorty glass pack should work just fine. lots less restriction. not like the 40 has much restriction, but its still enough to notice.

yea, but theres probably more than 4 mk1/2 vw cars in your town. it just so happens that i own 2 of those 4, and my buddy ben owns the other 2. both of mine are black. and both of his are grey. so the cops know whats up. you just gotta know how to drive better than a cop. straight roads are bad, cops can go faster... but curvy roads.. cops dont stand a chance. there land barges can not go around corners as fast as our tiny vw's. i had a hemi charger on my ass, then took a turn off the highway onto some back roads. the cop was gone in a matter of 30 seconds. then the next day i went over the same road and tried going the same speed, but i about wiped out.

The last time i had a come come after me while driving...i had a 92 Grand Am GT1 Coupe with a 3.3L V6, racing suspension under it, and a flowmaster exhaust...adn when its FLASHY RED the cops don't bother chasing it because they are smarter then that. I;ve calmed down alot since then lol, and I own the only black MK3 diesel in bathurst lol

hahaha... well they're doing their job, but it seems as though the majority of them are dicks...  the way i see it, as long as you're not driving like a complete asshat around school zones, doing crazy burnouts, and keeping the speed to a 'safe' level, then it should be ok.

around here its these kids who fill their car up full and then want to 'race' them, and then get everyone in the car killed.  i think it should be legal for the passenger of such a car be allowed to stab the driver if they don't slow down.  1 life for 5 lives... i can live with that   but dont even get me started on that topic... i almost got into it right there    anyways most cops are hard on people because they get to see the carnage of all the 'racing' that goes on.

yea the kids see fast n furious cars and think they can have that.  the problem is that stock those types of cars are quite slow...  it takes about 5-6 grand at LEAST to bring them up to a respectable speed.  probably 15 grandor more to make them a 10 second car... (the right way anyways)

I'm not trying to be a killjoy here, but I had a similar sound system and blasted my ears for years.  That combined with jackhammers, concrete saws, shotguns, etc. has led to permanent 24 hours a day of the ringing you have temporarily.   There are nights I have difficulty sleeping because of the ringing.   I can hear it over conversation or the TV, etc.   Protect your hearing, it never comes back.  When they say hearing damage is irreversible, they aren't just trying to scare you.
