How important is it to fit new fire seals/ washers when refitting injectors?
What would happen if i didnt and just reused the old ones?
Thanks,
Anton
Important to change - they crush down when you install them and can cause leaks if you dont.
Running without them is a VERY bad idea. You'd be better off reusing them than not running any.
I wouldnt chance running with none in...but im reusing a set at the minute until i get my injectors refurbed and put in new fire seals along with the refurbed injectors.
Are there any other cons to reusing them other than a leak?
Id heard the make the nozzles hotter and messed with spray patterns etc, any truth in that?
You'll find your nozzles get wrecked, your injector bodies get plugged with carbon and the threads between the injector and the head get seized with carbon too... The carbon buildup happens pretty fast...
And once your nozzles are wrecked, they start spraying badly and eat your glow plugs... Then your prechambers and pistons.
Yeah, they're important...
It IS possible to reuse them, but you need to "un-crush" them first so they get re-crushed upon reinstallation. Compare a new one to an old one - you basically need to find a way to press the center upwards.
Personally, I always buy twice as many as I think I'm going to need and then pretend I don't have the old ones any more next time I'm ordering parts. That way I've always got a set or two lying around "just in case". For the $1.89 or so they cost each it's a no-brainer.
Feck, better get the refurbed injectors done soon and get them installed with the new fire washers.
Thanks for the info.
