Performance injectors for 1.9 TD?
« on: August 24, 2005, 06:36:46 am »
Howdy all,

It seems as though my glow plug issues are likely caused by leaky injectors. Are there any performance alternatives I should consider instead of replacing with stock ones?

I know Smog sells injectors for TDIs... anything out there for 1.9 TDs?

I have installed these nozzles (DNOSD 274) and there was no any 2200 rpm only 1000.

but milage is 5.8-5.9l/100 km. mix city and hwy ,
before 6.1-6.3l/100 km .
I would say not bad stuff, try it.

I'am driving 1993 passat td 1.9 with intercooler , k-24 , boost controler ,
DNOSD 274 nozzles and mod pump by Gilles .

327000km.

So, a couple questions then...

1) Is this an easy install? Meaning, is it feasible for me to change the nozzles on my injectors? FYI I have a spare set so I have room for error.

2) What's this about idle speed? From what I've read, teh idle will go to 2000 rpms, but can just be adjusted down, right?

3) What do these nozzles cost?

I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but you can take a look at the following picture and see if you're comfortable with taking your injectors apart.

I've done TDI nozzle swaps on my own with little mechanical experience and I've found it to be easy. The TD injectors look much easier to disassemble/assemble to me.

Smog, one of the two nozzle sellers on this board, can install them for you and pop-test your injectors as well. His price is reasonable.

Not in all cases, i.e. read chris-pl's message. Also, in my 1.6 TD and DVST8R's 1.6D, our idle didn't go beyond 1,000 RPM IIRC.

Last I checked, about $95 CAD. Check the For Sale section of this thread. I'm not sure if RedRotors have GTD nozzles too (1.9L yes, for sure).

Yeah my idle didnt go up any but its already past 1000rpm  It Idles between 1100 and 1200rpm, once warm. That is with the idle screw completley removed.   I guess its time for a giles pump or a 12mm head or both

Man, you guys are great. I'm buying a set from Smog, sending him some cores and he's going to pop-test them for me.

I recently scored a spare 1.9 engine, so I have spares & cores, making work like this a lot easier. Got me thinking about a Giles IP now. What does he typically charge for his black magic mods?

WOW!

Installed Smog's injectors this weekend... what a difference! I don't have a dynometer, but cripes there's a noticeable increase in power for sure.

I think I may need to advance my timing a bit though, the idle is a bit rough and I notice a bit of blue smoke... even once it's warmed up. If I pull out the cold start a wee little bit the smoke goes away and the idle smooths out.

Problem with these AAZs is the damn IP... can't adjust it "by ear" because the pump doesn't move... have to adjust it on the pulley itself.

I just readjusted an injector set from a 500 000km eurovan 2.4d; I put GTD nozzles on them.

something interesting : 1997 eurovan got 130bar single stage injectors like the older 1.6d.
