mk3 1.9td revival finally.. but idle problem!
« on: March 18, 2009, 10:59:19 am »
I finally got her running last night! First time ever changing a cylinder head. I had some problem starting it but since i charged the battery, it started on the first crank.

Everything is fine but the idle is  really fast, like if the choke was on. I am surprise because i got a pre caliber IP. I also got some fuel coming out of the injector #1 at the end of the line at the injector end. Can my pump be compensate the looses of fuel?

What do you think?

I am also wondering if there is a rodage period, does the engine needs to be driven slowlier for a certain period of time or can i just drive it normally?

Thx for all your help on this cylinder head change, everything else looks fine..

have you tried tightening the nut? or is it leaking from there? the pump will compensate a little bit, but it won't run the way it should if there is a leak.  that being said, when my pump started leaking i noticed no real decrease in performance/starting, but then again it was the summertime.

you only need to drive it a certain way to seat the rings.  with new lifters i think you *might* want to drive it gently for a little bit to let them settle in, and then go nuts.

Thx jtanguay! I would like to know if i have to adjust the idle or should i just leave it like it is and see what will happen?

For the rest, even if there was minimal cracks between the valves on the head, the power looks to be the same as its use to be.

Have a good day!

oh yea forgot about the high idle.  you'll need to adjust that, because it won't settle on its own.  does it idle high when its all warmed up??? i wonder if your pump has an automatic fast idle setting?

pretty sure theres a link in the FAQ on how to adjust your idle.

On startup, its normal idle and the minute the engine start beiing hot, it idles fast. I am wondering where is the idle screw on those pre-caliber pump?
