Well I am planning on dropping in the Diesel hopefully...
« on: March 17, 2009, 11:03:00 pm »
If all goes well, I plan to drop it in sometime soon! BUT first I think i need to run down a list of what I still need to accomplish! If i miss anything please feel free to add it for me :P

So far:
-i have the engine on a dolly and running well
-new timing belt
-new tensioner
-put on a diesel mk1 passenger side mount
-timed to 1.00mm or 0.39"
-new valve cover gasket
-pimped GP wiring thanks to Vince
-throttle cable will work
-clutch cable is fine
-gas lines and tank is fine
-measured the filler nozzles at diesel pumps and they should fit in my filler neck
-

I will need:
-put in the rest of the GP stuff in
-I think i will use the Mk1 Gasser rad with the expansion tank in the rad (anyone think otherwise? speak up) Mainly to keep the engine bay clean, and the rad that came with the donor is in a little worse condition
-to remove the high psi fuel pump
-cut the fuel lines coming in to the engine bay
-flare them and lead them over to the passenger side fender
-to find the wire leading to the in tank pump and make it a 12v keyed
-use the wire from the coil to energize the fuel solenoid
-new fuel filter
-new air filter
-new oil and filter eventually
-Engine mounts off my Gasser engine
-Dakota digital thinger-mabober :)

Hmmm i cant help but think i am missing some stuff! All the fuel aspects, mounts are taken care of, axles will bolt up, electrical is a go.

can anyone see anything i may have missed? Its like 2 am.. and the ol brain just aint working lol i prob missed quite a few important things...

thanks a lot guys.

Some pictures of something completely unrelated? The next thing on my list to get running so i can cruise around in! I HAVEN'T HEARD IT RUMBLE IN LIKE 3 YEARS :(:(:(:(

I'm anxious to see how it works out for you, I hope it's a nice smooth running engine, it seems like there is always something else needed though or do we just look for it to have an excuse to work on them, that's what my girlfriend says even f I have a puddle of diesel under it eating the black top  and it damn sure will:lol:

damn that cougar is sexy!!!     is it a little ironic that its about the age of a cougar???

i'd like to see a diesel in that (can you tell i'm addicted?).  preferrably a cummins, or for the more modern approach, a duramax with allison trans.  push that thing to 1500 hp, and make it eat lamborghini's like they did on pimp my ride

I don't know how i'd feel seeing that cougar roll down the street and NOT sound & smell like a small block.

Great project !!! I didn't see the sensors mentioned. Oil pressure & coolant temp would be the ones you don't want to miss. For my diesel transplant to a Dadoge caravan, I didn't use the fuel pump lead to power the fuel cut off solenoid because on mine it is feed from the ECM and the computer will probably be yanked if its not needed for my speedo.

Ahah! Yes sensors. Let's see, will it be as easy as just splicing the mk1 harness in to the mk2 sensors on the engine?
