you just need to find a transmission with 90mm flanges.  the only thing with the gasser trans is the gearing.  it just plain sucks, but it'll work.

the corrado's WILL come with 100mm flanges, and the scirocco's will come in both flavours.  best to look for a TD transmission though.

Look for an ACN or ASF.
Avoid an AUG.
Go to the BrokeVW website and look at ratios.
If you get a trans with 100's....change them out for your 90's.
Take the time to put in all new seals.
The mask and the shot(s) are actually an IQ test. If you are wearing or circulating, you just failed the test. I can't feel sorry for you.

the ACN does about 2500 @ 60mph.  i can't wait to get my CTN rolling.  2150 rpm for 60mph. and maybe if i win the lottery i'll get the 0.658 to go 1900 rpm for 60 mph.   every bit helps!

I've got two of  these AUG's. The first is in a gas '85 Jetta (from a '92 Jetta with digifant originally). Yes, at 65 mph it is 3151 rpm or at 61 mph it is 3000 rpm. I have always seen those numbers as pretty high and b-u-z-z-y!!!!

In contrast, my beloved AGS and less beloved ACH's are looking at 2851 rpm at 65 mph and 3000 at 68 mph. On my long open roads, those numbers are quite a contrast. The gas car doesn't seem all that happy with it. My diesels would really hate those numbers.

Now, if I spent more time on winding roads or in the local mountains.....sure, I would be happy-er (at least in the gas car). Out on the open road.....I just don't care to hear my diesel engine THAT much!!!!

I actually worked on cleaning the 2nd AUG today. I am planning on putting the 0.89 in a car body (for the crusher) and I am going in with either a 0.71 or 0.75 from my other available transmissions. But, once again, this will be going into a gas car. There will be a noticeable gap between 4th and 5th....but, a gas engine won't mind very much.
This is just my take.

I should have a spare 5th gear for you as soon as I can get to the project (if you want the gear set).

Hey...better yet....you don't have a 0.75 set laying around that you don't want....do yeeez?????

you'd be surprised, but a tall ratio turbo diesel transmission could be even better.  i remember with my old diesel i would just drive 4th gear through the hills.  5th gear - turbo didn't kick in until about 110km/h, so it was pretty much useless there.  damn that tranny was tall.  but still fun   i wish i had modded that thing

it could be an AGS

3.94   3.45   1.94   1.29   0.91   0.75
*  R&P shown as both 67/17 (3.94) and 72/22 (3.27)
(the asterix is what shows in the excel spreadsheet i found.  that super tall r&p would be kick ass!!!)

im curious as to how many people have swapped 5th gear out before. I recently junked my 7a trans that has a .71 5th gear and bought an awy with .89 5th gear and would like to swap them. I tried last nite but was not able to figure out how to get the 5th gear out of my old trans. I tried to remove the bolt holding down the one gear set but could not remove it. is there a special way to remove it? Any info would be great i would love to have my .71 5th gear back

im pretty sure they are a friction fit and need to be taken apart with a puller or a press of some sort.
