Oil film on the rear...
« on: March 11, 2009, 03:27:44 pm »
Got your attention!

Anyway, how much oil film is "normal" on the back of the car?  After maybe 3 weeks with no wash, I had a decent film, with a couple dozen blotches maybe 1/8" - 1/4" in size.

Car doesn't consume a lot of oil - maybe a quart between changes max.  Still dealing with tuning issues / some smoke, so I assume this is the main source of the oil...

that can also happen with oil leaks . oil leaks down, air pulls it to the back were the vortex pulls it up and the low pressure causes it to swirl back.

Tyler, I'm running regular diesel and veggie oil (not simultaneously, of course).

Ya know, Caveman, I should have thought about the drip "blowback" factor.  I do have a moderate engine oil leak that I haven't been able to solve - it could certainly account for some of the blotches.  I really hate an incontinent car, whether from the outside of the engine, or from the exhaust... :(

I can say with a high amount of certainty that every time i've had a car or truck [ at least 3 diesel vanagons, they really show] that had those stains in the back was from oil leaks while running
