Hey, so I am gonna re-glue my headliner fabric and I have all the fasteners off, its free but I cant get the damn thing out of the car! Does anyone know a trick to get it out? Do I have to take out one of the front seats? Also the headliner backing is so flimsy, it has cracked in a few places (delicate as hell) its still salvagable but I'm wondering if the newer cars used a stronger material?
Thanks for any help.
Jay
If it's a mk2 Jetta you have to remove either the front windshield or the rear one. I'd suggest removing the rear one. If it's a golf you just have to open the hatch.
It is a Jetta MK2. I have to take out the rear window, really? That sounds pretty undesirable. Thanks.
OK, I got it out and I did not have to take out any windshields, totally unecessary! I just removed the two front seats (which I have learned is so easy) and slid the headliner board out the back door. Now for the fun part, scraping the old foam off, repairing the cracks in the super delicate board, re-glueing the fabric (or should I get new stuff which has new foam?) and re-instaling.
Headliner repair is easy:
Duct tape.... works wonders.
Also fixes slightly leaking piston rings!
(the second one is a joke, first one worked well for me.... just smooth it out to follow the contours of the board.)
