volvo d24tic crank tool
« on: March 06, 2009, 01:18:31 pm »
HI guys!
Anyone know of a good tool to hold the crankshaft whilst loosening/torqueing  the front crank pulley bolt?

I made one years ago but it did not hold up very good and did not work so good either.
Anyone have any links to a tool or maybe a good picture with measurements? I know a very good toolmaker so if I can only get a drawing it would be a piece of cake best regards / Tommy

I asked the same thing a few months ago
-http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=14974&highlight=
No answers but like it says, the pulley came off by hand! To tighten it I seem to remember just using a prybar and visegrips  to hold the pulley somehow. It worked because i got it to torque up to spec. I would imagine the same thing to remove it. If you have a compressor and a strong impact gun it should also be able to remove it.

Try talking to Baum Tools, they sell all this stuff and may be able to tell you the dimensions.

The volvo blogspot is a great resource for that motor.
I searched for a tool that would work, but i looked at VW and Volvo dealer tools and didn't find. However there must be be a supplier in Europe

Call Baum Tools at the 800 number you see on the link I posted. The guys really know what they are talking about and will be able to help you out. I spoke with Dexter there last week and he seemed really glad to be talking to someone who still had one of these motors. As you know, they are really rare...

I think that crank holder tool also works for Audi 5cyl gassers, so it's not that odd.

snap on's cheaper brand blue point sells the proper tools, but you have to look for the audi 5 cylinder gas or diesel, they both use the sme 2 tools, one is the crank holder, the other is the torque wrench extension that gives you the correct torque

No room on a volvo for that.Even with a swivel.  i would have done it otherwise.
