Hi, I'm looking for a D24T in good rebuildable condition in Utah and surrounding states. Does anybody have a line on one of these? Perhaps one you know of sitting in the back of some wrecking yard somewhere? Not too worried about completeness, but the more complete, the better. Thanks.

I know of a D24 in good complete condition near Chicago. If you are interested I can put you in touch with the owner.

Thanks for your input. Would that be a D24, or a D24T?

I would be interested in knowing more about the TDs. Oregon is not much further away than western Idaho, which is the closest one I can find so far. Is there any other info you can give me on them? Thanks.

theres 4 complete cars, ones pretty cheap. both diesels. did some more checking on pieces. you need a whole engine right? or what specific parts do you need?

Wow, that was fast! Thanks for posting that info up. I'm looking for a complete engine. Preferably with everything included and in running condition, though not absolutely necessary. There's a "knocker" available for cheap, but I'm not sure I want to do a rebuild at this point. It's probably a bad #6 rod due to low oil pressure as has been described on this website.

The D24 is not known to knock. Bottom ends wear out very rarely. To the extent that this engine's rep for having bad oiling is true, it is only true as pertaining to the bores and upper end for the rear 2 cylinders. The crank oiling is very good.
Could just be a bad injector. I predict any engine you find cheap, knocking or not, will need internal work sometime in the next year or two anyway... why not do it now before you drop it in?
The white 765 in Portland looks nice. Though you might not think so, this is one of those rare cars where the automatic version is faster than the manual. Good to keep in mind...

Good to know on the oil issue. I thought the oil issue was a crank thing, which would make sense on the knock. I haven't seen or heard the engine, but apparently the knock was bad enough for someone to scrap it. What else, other than an injector problem, could cause a 112K mile engine to knock so loud?
I am interested in rebuilding, but it would be a performance build, and would costs thousands. If I could drop a runner into the "subject", it would help get the project off the ground.

Well, I hate to say I'm gonna do something, and then not do it. But I will say that I have a lot of experience with Porsche 924 engine swaps, and that the Bonneville Salt Flats are only a couple of hours away.
