doubt in turbo
« on: March 03, 2009, 12:49:31 pm »
hello!
I've a golf mk2 gtd with a aaz engine, jr 10mm pump ,tdi crankshaft, tdi 90 hp gearbox, and a t3, 60 mm exhaust and a front mount ic from a mercedes sprinter!
the motor was totallly rebuild
I'm looking for a k24\k26 hybrid turbo to get more power!
my question is!
the hybrid turbo will have the same lag that the k24 stock but with more air flow right?
 to make a k24\26 turbo ,all i need is a k24 turbo and a kit repair off a k26?

is some variable-geometry turbo with similar and pic power that the k24\26 turbo that be plug and play in mine motor?

this is the only one i can answer, and it really depends on what kind of hybrid you want to make, you can a make one from the repair kit if the kit includes a new inducer wheel for the k26, but then you must have your k24 comrpessor housing machined to accept the k26 wheel. or you can put the entire compressor side of a k26 on to the k24.

I thinking in take a k24 and put a k26 compressor wheel  !
so, i need a k24,a repair kit of a k24 and the wheel as compressor house of a k26!

but which k26 is better?
 I'm looking to 170hp's
i know that t3 have more lag than k24 !
my fmic have a 60 mm pipe

is very expensive to do the k24\k26 hybrid?

The best and least expensive way is to buy an k26 compressor or a complete compressor for parts. Take the entire compressor off it and install it on the K24.
Most of the compressors I've seen on the 26's are the same. I've seen different center sections and exhaust housings though.

Get a rebuild kit from gpopshop.com or Giles or.... and rebuild the 24 while its apart.
This turbo (24/26)will be laggy-er than the 24 so be prepared. Works great once spooled though.

K26 with a k24 exhaust housing is a cool turbo for high RPM power....but around town it LAAAGS...every time the boost gets fun it's time to shift or REV my little engine like crazy..
cool turbo for the strip...not to cool for a daily...that's my .02 from my K26/K24 hybrid.

I got a K24 exhaust housing that has been machined out for a k26 wheel...PM if your interested. 8)
I actually have the whole turbo WITH 1/2" spacer to clear stock intake manifold...it needs a rebuild and maybe a new compressor wheel...PM me if your interested.
