The first replacement I can see, since the car sat for 7 years, but now it is going again. Is there something I'm doing wrong?? The cable was installed with the biggest possible loop so that there was less of a bend on it. Is there a better cable I can get?

If it's a chinease aftermarket one, then that could be ur problem. I had the same happen. I got another that was made in Italy and no problems since. Did it break or is your speedo bouncing?

if possible you could 'pour' some graphite into a cable end if there is an opening. that should really help, unless its just a truly crap design/product.

Right now, when I start out it isn't working. I have to gently hit the top of the dash, and then it works, but it is bouncing a little a low speeds. Probably is a cheapo, any suggestions for a quality one?

Ok, it sounds like your actual speedo is crapping out. But make sure the cable is fully inserted in the cluster. It might be backing out. Push the cable in from the rain gutter next time it's not working and see if it starts to work. If it does than it's not in all the way.
