Author Topic: Problems with MWFI reman injectors? (Read 4534 times)

Ok, just trying to see if anyone else had this problem. I got a set of reman injectors from Midwest Fuel Injection awhile back. I didn't get around to installing them for a month or so, and when I did I noticed that my fuel economy and power were down a bit. I figured my old injectors must have been opening at lower pressure so I lost a little effective advance. Anyway, the injectors were in about a month, and then I had to do some unrelated engine work. Since my friend and I built a pop tester, we decided to use my "good" injectors as a benchmark. Good god, they were terrible. Uneven spray, pop pressures all over the place (131-157 bar), 2 dribbled and leaked, totally unacceptable. We used some of his Merc injectors in the pop tester, they worked perfectly. So I know the tester is ok. Has anyone else had issues with MWFI injectors? They offered to swap them for another set (to late to get my money back), but why would I want more injectors that sucked? Frustrating........

You could accept the offer with the condition that they tell you exactly what they do in the rebuild process. If you don't hear the correct answers then there is a problem. You can also tell them that you want the pop pressure set at and that you will have a third party test the breaking pressure etc. Leaky injectors can wreck your head and or engine. I would take some video of them in the tester as proof. Offer to send them the video. Are they willing to buy you a new engine if the product is defective again?

The MWFI ones. I had the head off so I figured I'd test them.

It's possible that a small bit of rust or dirt got stuck in the injector when you opened the lines. I'd take their offer on the replacement and then test out the new ones when you get them.

I'm thinking about this same problem, I want a new or decently rebuilt set of injectors for the new T/D as it had a 130 bar on in it and 3 155's. I hate to have to send clear to Canada just to get decent and equal popping set of injectors. Does anybody here recomend anyone that are known to be good. I'm not going to bother about the core and just pay the difference. I don't know what to believe about these injector stories I've been reading, I'm even hearing that new Bosch nozzles arent all that good anymore. If that's the way it is I might as well keep what I have. I'd even consider rebuilding them myself but if they aren't popped you don't know what you have. I put a set of nozzles in a set one time I got from parts place, they worked okay, and didn't make much smoke but were the noisiest things I ever heard and put them back the way they were originaly, {lesson learned} :wink: I'm not gonna build a tester for one set of injectors and where could you get the shims from to begin with.

Andrew or Duane off the top of my head. Both stateside. I am guessing that they, or one of the others here on the forum will do a better job than a local shop. There is "within tolerences" and there is spot on 155 bar. These guys will do it right. Shipping in the states should be way cheap in a flate rate box. Not sure on shipping to canada, but I hear giles might be able to do a decent job :wink:
