Yea finksburg MD, im about 30 minutes north west of baltimore city. As far as the newer tdi trans goes what would i have to do to make that work in my 84? I didnt realize people were putting them in the older cars with the older motors.

You would need to convert to cable shift and hydraulic clutch and also make a custom tranny mount. You can convert the tranny to cable clutch instead

well i would rather not do that im fine with the style thats in there now just want to put it back on the road again. With my jetta down im forced to drive my 65 buick with a 401 their is a big fifference in fuel mileage between the two.

Yea but you pay for the cool factor of a 65 Buick and its Nailhead.

I have a transmission that came out of a 91 Golf with a 1.6 NA. If this will work for you we may be able to make a deal, but I'd be afraid of shipping charges going across the border.

on the bottom, flywheel side...
Its a flat plate, might need to clean it, its on the lowest part...
good link
http://scirocco.org/gears/(P.S you dont really want an awy , unless you get really stuck, highway revs will suck, I have one in my jetta right now, but was in a jam)
Get something with .8 or better final 5th gear.
