search function is your friend, nozzles will give a good bump in mpg, though i hear they are really expensive on the pd.

your '05 model has a PD (pump duse - literally means pump injector) motor. there is no injection pump, and each injector 'pumps' its own fuel.oil changes are going to be extremely critical on your car. only use the 5w40 or 10w40 synthetic oil in it. read through this link on tdiclub. it should give some insight as to how some people have managed to avoid the common problems with the PD motors.see below how early these things can wear out! looks like the PO neglected to do an oil change, and this person now has to deal with it...QuoteEngine: BRMYear: 2005.5Cam failure Y/N, miles: Y, 49200Type of failure: severe wearFull oil service history, type, spec, weight, and brand if you have it: Dealer serviced with 505.01(supposedly) at 8k, 18k, 35k, ?, 49k by me w/507 total quatrzMiles on car: 49250Mods: none performance wiseNumber of starts per day, typically: 3-4New cam Data:When was cam replaced: in shop now(VW dealer Service dept.)Miles on new cam: n/aFull oil service history, type, spec, weight, and brand if you have it: Any issues?: Any wear?: Any other data you find important or of interest: Bought used w/ 48k on it. I had my cam and lifters inspected a few months ago, posted pics in a thread. Not damage or wear to speak of. Pics didn't do it justice.thats post #13 from the tdiclub. there are some good specific things in that post which you can do to prolong the life of your PD motor. such as the bypass filter kit, and CAT fuel filter. both will remove more contaminants out of both the oil, and fuel. removing contaminants out of the oil is moreso important because of the EGR system. soot contaminated oil is very abbrasive, and will wear parts much quicker than clean oil. there is a lot of pressure on the cam lobes as they fire the injector lobes. this is why there is so many problems. using the specific oils is a must!this youtube link will show you a recent posters issues with this type of motor. if your motor sounds like this, then you've got problems.
W'oh good job, i didnt know you can use regular synthetic oil, i though you had you use diesel oil. I dunno whats been done to it if anything, well i know the oil was changed but as far as fuel filters ect.. It was sold from the local VW dealer, i guess i can check with them for the maintence records

Shell Rotella-T 5W-40 Full Synthetic is supposed to be good.Is it 70K miles or Km? If it is miles, you are overdue for a timing belt, if Km, you are due at 96 000 Km.

If it is miles, you are overdue for a timing belt, if Km, you are due at 96 000 Km. aren't the PD motors rated at 100k? PD's do require special oils. using a non PD specific oil could lead to engine damage. the problem is that getting PD certified (i think its 505.01) costs quite a bit of money for all the testing. just stay away from the 507.00 5w30 oil. it will give you better MPG, but could result in quicker wear even though it is PD certified. you might want to check this additive out. apparently its well recommended for reducing wear. and this product is specifically recommended for PD motors? best to check TDIclub for some more info on that one though. i have a PD motor, and i'll probably stick to a high quality synthetic like Total (formery Elf) WITH an additive like lubromoly, and run a bypass filter.

Do i just disconnect 2 lines and take the cover off? I just looked at my cabin filter and OMG!! its strait black, im replacing it tommorrow..

Yeah i just bought a Wix filter and im going to install it today.. is it ok if i just pour the fuel out of the old filter into the new one? i dont really have any other way of getting fuel into the filter..
Quote from: "Incognito"Yeah i just bought a Wix filter and im going to install it today.. is it ok if i just pour the fuel out of the old filter into the new one? i dont really have any other way of getting fuel into the filter..its probably best not to pour the used fuel from the old filter into the new one. if you can, get some ATF and fill it up with that instead.when installing a new fuel filter into my jetta, i installed the filter dry. the pump has sufficient prime to pull fuel to the filter, but it will definitely run a bit rough for the first little bit until its full. maybe just pouring in a little bit of ATF will do just fine.
ATF meaning automatic transmisson fluid??
