1.9idi Turbo diesel (SOLD)
« on: February 24, 2009, 04:50:56 pm »
I have a 1.9 IDI out of a 98 Jetta with 330,000km ish on it.  Has new glow plugs in it, turbo has about 15,000km on it (k03) and the crank is good (no wobble).  Pump does not leak. Runs good.  Asking $700 but if no one is interest I may part it out.   It has the AC compressor removed and the other pully installed to keep the serpintine belt.  It does not have the motor mounts or clutch.

EDIT:  Forgot to say that I put a new water pump on it because I thought it was leaking but the leak is still in that area somewhere.  Not sure if I messed the o-ring up or what (can't see in that area of the engine when it is in the truck).  I may pull the pump back off and have a look.  It was a drip that I could not find.  Price is flexible.

As you know, when the temperature drop these get hard to start.  I didn't like leaving work at midnight (-40) and praying that it would start.  That is the main reason.  The other reason is that it has to work hard to pull that truck around.  I need to be able to fill it up with wood plus a trailer and not worry about killing the engine.  It is a good motor but a bit to small for the truck.  2.5L would be perfect.

I was contemplating a 1.9aaz in my 4runner. I had 3 engines in my garage, lots of parts, and I was going to use the ACME adapter plate. Downside was that it would still be a fair bit of fab work (cooling, exhaust, motor mounts etc) and it would surely be underpowered.

Then I found a Toyota "2L" 2.4 diesel pickup for sale locally. $800 and it was a bolt-in swap. Still underpowered but at least I can get it up into 5th

This was not that under powered.  It felt like the 22re but when you put a load of wood in the back you would feel it going up hills.  Just normal driving it was fine.

with some work, this motor should easily move around your truck :)

my mTDI is probably pushing 160ft/lbs torque, and thats just a guess considering the clutch only holds to around 150 ft/lbs and i can easily slip it     and i don't even have the intercooler hooked up yet.  i may look toward getting a better intake & downpipe in the future, which will further increase the power
