timing injection pump different pulley
« on: February 24, 2009, 03:30:50 pm »
Hi, i am going to to do the timing on my 95 golf diesel but my pulley doesn't look like everybody's else. It dosen't have the round hole to align the pulley to injector #1. I think it is more the tdi's locking pin that could lock it. Anyone have any issue on how to lock those? Sorry, i can't find how to post a Fxxing image!!

Thx very much

If your pulley has one central bolt and three smaller bolts then yup you've got the pre-calibrated pump.

Timing this pump doesn't require a dial indicator... after locking the crank and cam to TDC you loosen the three smaller bolts and then rotate the pulley until you can insert a timing pin into the small hole at the top of the pulley (the pin is somewhere in the 6-8mm diameter range... someone will chime in with the correct number).  Tighten the three bolts and you're done.

yes it has 3 bolts and a centre bolt. Is the hole should be align with the rectangular hole in the pulley.. Is it gonna be at 12 o'clock..

Yes it's the rectangle you are talking about.

If the pump was level the pin would be inserted at 12 o'clock.

You know the cam pulley needs to be loosened from the camshaft in order to time the engine right?

the picture!! Exactly what i got. So i have to find that will fit into that rectangle and all the way thru at 12 o'clock... and done. Or is the reststill the same procedure as the other kind? Can i spin the pump or i absolutly have to undo the 3 bolts?

Thx again

To set the timing something has to rotate.. either the pump or the sprocket.  The early pumps have elongated mounting holes so that the pump can rotate... your have a later version with elongated holes in the sprocket so that it can rotate.

You don't need a dial indicator... most of the rest of us do... rejoice!!

hey just use a 6mm drill or something close. you insert it thru the
square cut out into the pump locking hole which is 6mm.
