FS CTN transmission (02A mk3 tdi)

I have another CTN code 02A transmission, out of a 1996 Passat tdi, no cables or hydraulics included just the trans. $400. These make a great swap into older models, 95km/h is 2000rpm (59mph) great gearing. willing to ship or deliver in Toronto/Montreal corridor at cost.

unfortunately... although i do believe some 02A's in Europe had the cable clutch... i found a kit to convert the tranny for about $400USD. 

my idea is to create a linkage to use the cable to actuate the master cylinder... thereby bypassing everything.  it'll surely make bleeding the clutch a lot easier too! (i think?  ) all i need to do is make sure there is enough travel in the cable to fully actuate the MC, then its go time.  the linkage shouldn't be difficult at all to create either.  particular attention must be paid to the angle of the rod though... as to try and keep it as linear as possible to reduce the amount of wear.

this is a really good price for this transmission!  CTN = smileage    i'd also recommend switching to something like lubro moly gear lube to further reduce friction.

hmmm i've heard of those cars having cable shift, but i never thought that they would do something as crazy as cable operated hydraulic clutch?  weird...  not saving $$$ there    but yes i have the shifter box & cables as well, although the one from a 1.6/1.9 can be swapped into the transmission for a rod shift conversion

Hard to explain, and never done it myself, but as far as I gather it just converts the 'pull' from the cable to the 'push' normally given by hydraulic

that looks like it does away with the hydraulics though...

I got the same rig for my TDI swap, 02J in a Scirocco.  It's all factory stuff.  The cable is very similar to the manual-adjust clutch cables in A1 and A2 cars.  All it is is a lever that pushes in on the clutch fork in the bellhousing.

I think this setup was also used on some Eurovans (in Europe) that had 02A transmissions.  I bought the whole setup (brackets, lever, cable, etc...) from a chap on here for very cheap.
