V-maxx Coil Overs
« on: February 13, 2009, 07:05:32 pm »
I just came across these coils in an issue of VW Performance. Has anyone used them or no where to get then state-side? Also, would they work on my 84 that was made in Pennsylvania? Seems like they would be sweet for the money.

I have them on my rabbit.  For the money they are good.  It feels like riding a go kart.  It can be a bit rough and bouncy, .  But they seem to be built fairly well.

Im in calgary,Alberta,Canada.  Rabbit is an 83. Bought them through a local shop here great guys. http://www.concept1.ca/SUSPENSIONS/Vmaxx%20Coilovers.htm

I think they are worthwhile they are low and handle well.  I couldn't justify spending more money on a suspension then the car.  Paid 1800 for my rabbit.  Rather be dumping the extra cash on my engine build.

Good luck, any more questions just ask.

Sounds like what i'm looking for. I only paid $400 for the car, so i can't begin to justify $1200  for H&R or other big brands. Unfortunatly, they are out of stock from your source. But i'm not in a rush or anything. Thanks for the help.

IMO you should spend the extra $50 and get some FK AK's. I've heard they are not as stiff and handle better.

I am going to getting coilovers this spring and I am most likely going to pass on the vmaxx and get some AK's.

I don't believe concept1 has them for MK1.

I have FK's in my MK4, they're nice.

I just bought some FK's and they are nice.  I have heard they are better quality.  AMI motorsport sells them for 545 shipped anywhere.

I ran VMAXX for the first 6-7 months I had this car, and then switched to BC racing.
Vmaxx were great when I was still high up (very tippy top of tire behind the fender flare when viewed on the level)
but then I brought them down to a proper ride height (most of the 195/50/15 in the fender on all corners)
and the ride certainly got a bit harsh. It was not intolerable, as they dont have much give, but a bit too bouncey for my liking.
Also, I have a 25mm hollow autotech front sway which helps a lot!

I really feel like these are fine coilovers for the money:
At a decent height to actually race, they handle better than most other suspensions for $500,
and if you trade off aesthetics for function, they will go LOW AS BALLS!
and you wont bounce quite as much as a honda on coilover sleeves.
