So I get back from the shop today..... the news?

BENT VALVE(s)

How hard to replace a couple and things I should do while I have the head off?

Metal head gasket, head studs?

And no it wasnt running when this happened. just me being stupid and un-knowledgeable whilst prepping the engine to go in.

It`s all going to depend on what motor you have, what year it is, what your plans are and how deep your pockets are

91 1.6 TD plans are just a good all around motor. No major hp mods but just a little reliable boost.

I'd pull at least that pistion and inspect it and the rod for damage. Also, inspect your valve guide as well. Both can get cracked when a piston wants to occupy the space a valve is in, at the same time :-(

port and polish that head and manifolds.
Get your self a dremel tool some grinding stones, polishing brush bit and a cut off wheel (pack of 20, they are useful!). gasket match the whole thing. It has very surprising ++++++ results! Good efficiency - low egt's - over all better flow will give you a power increase and shorter turbo lag! Just be sure to clean the whole head off when you're done. And wear eye protection at first. That rough casting tends to fly everywhere. (that may have only been because i did it to a new head but it's never a bad idea to keep your eyes safe. You only have two!)

how did you manage to bend the valves while the engine wasn't even running, if you don't mind me asking??

No clue. Im sure it was them when they were moving my car in and out of the shop, pushing it in gear. But apparently thats not possible  so he put it on me so thats just what I assume. At this point I really don't care anymore. It sat there waiting to be done for months. At any rate, he says the motor wont turn over by wrench and says somethings stopping it about mid rotation. Oh well..... lesson learned. Time for headstuds.

Well why couldn't pushing the car in gear be the cause? if they screwed up your timing or if it was screwed before it went in.. it very well could be the cause.. I would give it to em' until they prove they didnt do it :P

That sucks, one small screw up and it forces you to have to redo it all.. :( but hey if you got the time, this is a good thing :) ! good luck
