Glow Plugs - 1.5/1.6 -- same as 1.9 IDI TD?

I was looking at the glow plugs available - it states TDI plugs won't work in a 1.5/1.6 - how about the 1.9td from Canada? Mine is a 95, I think.

The TDI cylinder glow plugs will not fit any IDI diesel. However, TDI coolant glow plugs are the same as 1.9 IDI cylinder glow plugs. On manual tranny TDI's there are 3 of these in the water neck at the back of the head. They are used to heat the coolant leaving the head to improve heater output.

Also, I think that all 1.6TD and 1.9TD glow plugs are now the same. This was not always the case, but the new bosch duraterm plugs will replace almost everything, fast slow or otherwise. In any case the glow plug part # in ETKA is now the same, 1.6TD or 1.9TD.

Alright! In any case, I just aquired a 1.6NA for transplant into a Sidekick (nice and slow for the new driver in the family - my daughter is 15 1/2 - plus she will be able to afford to drive it!) so a set of 1.6 plugs would still get used, but my 1.9's got burn't (trying to start at -40 F/C - silly me ).

I love the idea of improved heater output - or at least quicker turn up of heat. My unit seems pretty impressive. I put an aux. heater in the back - it makes enough to keep me comfy in the -20's F - and that's with a leaky soft top.

The 1.9 IDI plugs can be used in the 1.6's - however they have a different element design which seems to fail more often - I've gone through three new style plugs in 70,000 km on my 1.6TD, and two in a 1.6 NA that I work on regulalry.  Another TD I maintain has the old style, and hasn't had problems with plugs in 4 years.
