Ah, the Citi Golf. Every once in a while for the last 10+ years I get the brief urge to make one. If I did, it would get a Lupo 1.4 TDi or maybe even a 1.2
Since the human brain has no delete key....
Word is somewhere in the next couple of years VW SA will finally replace it with the Lupo.

Nope. No Citis in the U.S. although the way the economy is going Citis and Yugos will be all we can afford for a while

Closest you could come to one in the states is starting with a nice 81-84 NA Rabbit 4 Dr and building one up from there.
From time to time Citi parts surface, The main differences between the NA Rabbit and the SA Citi is trim and drive train. The Citi trim stuff is really what is different, neat alloy wheels, one piece front windows, (power?), etc. In fact most of the tooling is from Westmoreland. Far Out Parts used to import Citi stuff but, they disappeared a while ago.
The big difference is the dash but, if you can get an Mk1 Skoda Fabia LHD Dash and a Lupo (3L?) steering wheel from Europe you would have a LHD Citi for the most part (well up to 2006 anyway, they got an Mk4 looking dash then). for the most part. Outside of the nifty alloys and dash there isn't much you you'd really need from outside the states to fab up a reasonable facsimilie / clone. Cabriolet exterior trim with a little modding and some aftermarket stuff would be passable particularly to the untrained eye.
1999? - 2005 Citi Dash:
1999 - 2007 Skoda Fabia Dash:
I have read on the vortex that
Autostyle will ship to the U.S. They have exterior trim stuff, tailights, even the
Citi R-line Body kit at current exchange rates it works out to $606.09 USD but, the shipping would most likely equal half that.
Whenever I am able to travel overseas (ie: when my daughters grow up), I've always wanted to take a vacation to SA (Safari!) or Europe (or both) and just spend the ENTIRE vacation hitting scrap yards and filling a 20 FT container full of the cool VW stuff we never got in NA. Then fly home and wait for the souvenirs to show up!
Funny, whenever my wife starts to talk about "dream vacations" and how romantic it would be.... I always say pretty much the above (and add that I'd go to the VW Factory Museum). After that I always get "the look"
