FS: 1984 Rabbit original TD - $2200
« on: February 09, 2009, 10:35:46 pm »
Car in question is a 1984 Rabbit Turbo diesel, and yes its an original TD.   I bought it a while back and drove it from Ontario to BC where i am now located.  Reason for sale is i have spent more money on this car than i wanted and its at the point where i dont want to spend anymore.   Car was recently involved in a slight "fender bender" where there was some slight damage to the front end.   I was going to restore it as it is a solid rare car but where im living i dont have the space or equipment to do so.  Anyways here are the details.

The car has 290K on it.   I have swapped the cluster out for one i found with 45K on it and it now has 67K on the speedo.  I have the original speedo as well.

Engine:
-Original 1.6 turbo diesel, 290K, recent headgasket, runs great.
-Custom side exit exhaust on it, 2.5" mandrel bent from the turbo back with a 3" stainless tip (you hear the turbo really nicely :))
-modded wastegate
-K&N cone filter, also comes with original mint airbox.

New or recent parts.
-alternator (jan 2009)
-glow plugs (dec 2008)
-accessory belt (dec 2008)
-fuel filter (dec 2008)
-thermostat (may 2008)

Also comes with a custom complete intercooler kit - toyota supra intercooler (fits in front of rad), custom 2" intercooler piping, all clamps and hoses, custom bolt on intake mount. Intercooler needs repair.   (not installed)

Transmission/drivetrain:
-020 4S diesel transmission - shifts good except 3rd gear on the downshift grinds
-new drive axles (may 2008)
-VWMS rear transmission mount
-weighted shift rod
-new shift linkages
-recent shift bushing repair kit installed.

Suspension:
-Fronts - Bilstein struts with H&R sport springs, 1 coil cut.
-Rear - brand new tokico gr2 shocks with H&R sport springs.
-Custom rear strut bar

Brakes:
-recent master cylinder (feb 2008)
-new drivers side front wheel bearing (march 2008)
-new front calipers (aug 2008)
-new rear drums
-new rear brake cylinders (mar 2008)
-vented front disks with new pads (aug 2008)
-new in box rear brake shoes
-newish rear wheel bearings
-new front flex lines (aug 2008)

Interior:
-Scirroco height adjustable seats - front drivers side has a small tear in the bolster, and the tilt forward lever doesnt function due to a broken cable. Passenger side seat is mint. Comes with matching rear seat 60/40 split in good condition that isnt installed.
-Brown original rabbit floor mats with the bunny on them
-diesel gauge cluster with working clock and 67490 kms on the odo
-tan dash and door cards with black window crank and modified cabriolet inner door handles.
-vdo voltage gauge
-leather wrapped gti steering wheel with GTI badge
-modified center console with polished aluminum panel to fit autometer egt and boost gauge
-2 5/8" autometer sport comp series boost and egt gauges.

Stereo/other:
-Pioneer Dehp 7600mp deck, Jl audio 3.5" speakers in dash, JL audio 6x9's in boxes behind seats.  Ipod/mp3/gps input wire in glovebox.
-Sylvania silverstar ultra headlights
-Hella 550 yellow fog lights
-remote keyless entry with alarm

Exterior:
- new front windshield (aug 2008)
- mint black flag mirrors
- new door handles
- newish reflex wiper blades
- modified stock bumpers

Wheels/tires:

13x6" 4x100 BBS wheels off an 80's bmw. Offset is ET13. Gold mesh center with hand polished lip. Wheels are balanced and have stainless valve stems and caps. Tires are Falken ziex ze512 185 60R13 with a good summer left in them.   Gorillaz wheel stud kit with chrome wheel nuts to mount these.

The car is solid.   The front end will need some repair if you want to restore it.   I started fixing it, but i dont have the space to do so.  The body on it otherwise is pretty good.    I fixed the drivers side floor with sheet metal as a temporary way to get it to pass the BC inspection.   There is a bit of rust on the underbody but for the mostpart its pretty decent for an ontario car.   The strut towers are rust free.   The windshield frame is pretty much rust free.   To get the car running it will need a starter motor, as the old one decided to kick the bucket.   Other than that it runs great.  I have nothing to hide, i pretty much been through most of this car inside out and if you have any questions about anything feel free to ask.

Im sure i left some stuff out, I also have some nice thule roof racks and a thule box that i could negotiate into the deal if i get what im looking for pricewise.   I also have some other parts laying around that i can throw in.

As for pictures, here are some from this summer, the only thing different about the car now is that it has a black hood, the grill is cracked and it needs some work on the front corner.  The front bumper was damaged and im working on repairing that.  pics of its current state will be posted tommorow.

thanks for looking.   I have no problem delivering the car within reason as it is still plated and insured.  If your interested send me a pm or email me at [email protected]

EDIT:  forgot to add it also has a brand new fuel tank and the car doesnt come with the shift knob.   It will be rolling on the BBS wheels.   I will be replacing the starter motor as well.

Im located in Cloverdale, BC.

if the car doesnt sell it will eventually get parted out.

$2200 obo

Sweet car... too bad about the damage. Before I knew how to fix that kind of stuff I got rid of a very clean '84 GTI.

Anyway what kind of boost were you running?
Do you remember what your fuel consumption was as well?

I am building one currently, but have not had the chance to drive it yet, and I was curious what your numbers were...

Thanks! Good luck selling her... it will be a great ride for someone! Especially for the fact that these are so rare. I have a TD 1.6 in my rabbit, but its not original. Its from an '84 Jetta.

Cheers!

I was running stock boost settings, with the intentions on increasing that.   Currently the boost gauge shows 7psi.   Fuel consumption was between 500 - 600kms for 30 litres of fuel
