smokey after rebuild
« on: May 22, 2009, 08:51:07 am »
Great to have this site back up, thanks for all the work it took!

Well, I'm running the 356TD every day now, but not driving it -- I've got a serious clutch (slipping) problem, and I guess the engine is going to have to come back out  :'(   I think it's the throwout bearing, but no telling till it's opened up.

My other concern is smoke, the engine (fresh rebuild) is still pretty smokey on start up, but then I probably have less than a half hour run time on it, and really none of that under load. Someone please tell me that is normal and I don't have anything else to worry about.  ::)

Fresh rebuild... meaning new rings?

it will take roughly 1000-3000 kms to get a good break in if i am right. (of normal "under load" driving :P)

Yeah, second size overbore, new rings, pistons, bearings, etc.

I guess I'm just getting paranoid now after a couple bad breaks including clutch fiasco and windshield glass (goodbye $600!) -- project fatigue is setting in.
