Hi all,
Just wondering what's a good Intercooler to run on a 92 TD. My dad's TD definitely needs to cool down on the breathing.

a lot of people use a Mercedes sprinter (big van) intercooler.. it fits between the headlights of a mk1 and 2.
I've got a renault 21 TD IC for free with about the same dimensions so I'm going to use that... its about 85x30x4cm

If you own a Mk2, try to get hold of a stock Mk2 1.6 GTD intercooler.. I just sold a complete set with pipes and supports:

Do you have Renaults? the pic is froma Renault 21 TD I think, it is waiting to be mounted in my caddy. Size is about 90x25x4cm with 58mm pipes and fits exactly around the 1.6D radiator.

If you can find the good size and pipe location, Saab has a good turbo reputation.
You could do a search for Audi A3 or Vw Golf/Jetta mk4 TDIs, the IC is about 30x30x10cm with both (70mm!) pipes pointing upwards. It could fit next to the radiator on the right side.

I have this one on sale

I would love to get the GTD Intercooler, but they're pretty pricey and rare. I believe the Golf Rallye's had a similar setup. It just bolts into place.
There's an emerald Golf on Vortex that has a writeup about it. It has one.
In the absence of that, I think something that fits in-between the lights would be my preference.
ejust, what parts would you have to cut up to fit that audi cooler in?

because of the size and thickness, the front clip would have to be cut to fit it in there. The current stock clip (holds the grill, headlight assemblies, hood release latch) doesnt allow for much room between the grill and radiator so a flatter IC like the thickness of an A/C condensor (which sits in front of radiator on A/C equipped cars) would be desired.
Any ideas?? Feel free to jump in...Thanks

If you pay the shippingcost, I'll even ship my mother to you

But I think the shipping will cost quiet some cash, if you PM me your ZIP/City/Country I can check it...

Mercedes Sprinter is same as Freightliner/Dodge Sprinter sold in N.A. Just about every FedEx truck and lots of others in my neck of the woods. Should be coming soon to a wrecking yard near you!
Problem is that usually their trip to the junky is brought on by a serious collision with front end damage, not ideal to yield a good intercooler! I'd call around and ask for roll overs --
