Any tips for headlight reseal?
« on: January 28, 2009, 11:02:22 pm »
one of my headlights leaks water into it and just fires through bulbs like there's no tomorrow.

i tried hot glue (like craft glue but the industrial stuff) and i guess that stopped working? I also tried silicon outdoor use dap but that was poorer than the hot glue. is there somewhere else, other that where the glass bonds to the plastic backing, where the water leaks into sometimes?

anyone have any tips for resealing those bad boys?

Could you try some epoxy, like a jb weld or something?

Could yes, im mostly asking if there is somewhere else where water likes to get in there like where the light seals to the back of the enclosure. Anyone else have this problem with flooding head lights?
thanks for the reply

X 2 ^^

It's tough getting them resealed just because it's hard to get it apart.

You can put it in the oven for about 15 min on about 250 ish to soften the glue then you can get a knife in there to cut what's left to remove the Len's then re seal.

BTW, I have not done this. I've only read about this process.

somewhere else where water likes to get in...

if you've got the bulb pulled out, dunk it in water and see where the bubbles come from.

Thank you everyone  :D

I will put it in water. find bubbles, JB weld

if that doesn't work ... chisel the JB off, put it in the oven pull it apart, really clean it out then reseal with epoxy.
