TWO simple QUESTIONS about 91 jetta eco diesel??
« on: August 02, 2005, 10:15:22 am »
1.  I have a 91 jetta eco diesel, and I was wondering if my motor is a true eco motor, the fuel filter is a two hose filter w/ no pre-heater and the valve cover says turbo diesel on it, what is a good way to find out if it's the oringinal motor? I'm thinking it could possibly be a 87 jetta TD engine, how many hp is the 87 jetta TD?

2.  Where can I get a VW diesel compression test guague tool?

   Email nolanzzzz@hotmail or contact 434 996 7643 after 7pm, or post, thanks    :D

1. Check the engine code - it's on a flat spot on the front of the block to the left of the vacuum pump. Yours should be 1V. It if's from the 87 it'll be an MF code. Eco is 60hp, TD is 68hp.

2.  I got mine from Napa. It's their private label but is made by KD tools.

What fuel filter did eco diesels come with?
« Reply #2 on: August 03, 2005, 11:46:29 am »
My engine code is a 1V, I checked the other day after power washing the block off, the question is do eco diesel come from the factory w/ 2 hose fuel filters, that's what mine has on it, I've been told everything 88 and up is supposed to be the 3 hose fuel filter. Post you comments thanks   :D  :?:

1V is an ecodiesel... and a turbodiesel.. the 1V lacks a LDA pin for fuel enrichtment... do you have a mushroom of about 8cm wide on the dieselpump?

A heated dieselfilter has 4 hoses... one from the tank to the filter and from the filter to the pump.. and the retour runs the other way from the pump to the filter, and one from the filter to the tank.

Mine only has  two hoses, on the injection pump, where would the diesel pump be located?

everything 88 and up has a heated fuel filter, but your car, even if it was sold in the 88 model year, may be an 87.  A lot of 88 model year cars were built in 1987 and shipped over from Germany as 1988s.  That could explain the fuel filter discrepancy
88 Jetta TD....sold for $1000, bought an 06 Cobalt, clearing out the diesel jetta stuff now
