no only 8v stuff will work on the diesels.
8v only is true. this might work but you may need to grind some metal to clear the intake flange. pic is mk4 AEG manifold. [header look-a-like]

no only 8v stuff will work on the diesels, i heard a n/a 1.6 with a exhaust the other day...sounded really cool actually...
the good thing about n/a is the instant torque they produce.....its a different driving experience...
i think if you were to do a few tweaks it would make it a much better (to drive) engine
plus it would be good to see/hear of tuned n/a...and it would be a different from everybody else...
yeah, i don't need the power of a TD.. yet loll. I'm a teenager trying to make some head way in life.. i want economy! loll plus the N/a's are like the simplest engine known to mankind

All you need is two wires, a battery and diesel.. and your good to go! loll I just love how self sufficient they are.
*** eh? only 8v stuff eh.. figures.. sorry turbine.. no deal

HMM what about taking the original manifold and for lack of better words "porting and polishing" the inside of it, and making a bigger opening and then running a good size pipe all the way back?
Also, if you don't mind i have some questions about the use of a muffler. Some people claim that an N/a is loud with no mufflers. I don't see how this could be true, because I have my diesel engine on a stand and running straight from the manifold.. and it's not loud.. Even holding a 2 foot piece of pipe up to the manifold quiets down like 40% of the noise.. so if your running straight pipe all the way back.. how could it be loud? So my question is, will running straight pipe harm the engine the same way it would a gasser? do diesels need back pressure? I have heard of guys running big 7.3 fords straight pipe. Are they just dumb? lol No muffler would make doing a side dump alot easier. LOL
Thanks.

No deal? I'm the one with the 8v manifold I'm trying to sell you... it came off a diesel.
The diesel camshafts have no overlap to them, so big, wide open exhausts can only be your friend.

take the car on the highway, and then tell me it's not loud... the drone should change your mind... especially at 3000 rpm...

@ Turbine, you said in your IM that the Mani was a 16v! lol Get your stuff straight man! Im sent back to you.
I didn't seem to think of when the engine was under load

That would make quite a mean noise eh!? Soo no cam overlap means you can run as big and as non restrictive as your heart desires

theoretically. lol
So then, if I were to get a dual mani, and the required dp.. then run 2.25 pipe back to a cherry bomb (glasspack) i should have a good sounding and very free flowing exhaust system!
$491 for the set from Techtonics.. Pricey.. lol What about widening the opening of the current single manifold and making a bigger Dp? for a cheap solution for starting with, so i can gain some cash to buy the TT set up maybe?

Turbocharge it.
You will do it eventually anyway, so easier just to do it right away and save all the money that would be (wastefully) spent on the N/A.
Sure, you can improve the N/A, but after a while you'll get hungry for more power and then only turbo can provide...

oh dearest TurboJ...
I wish to make this one bad mofo of an engine, and will probably if the time and money is right turbo it with a good ol' fashioned Vnt setup.

BUT sadly for now and all the crap going on for me, it will stay a sad little sack of N/a poopy lol
but definetly.. i am already power hungry

my other car is a '67 cougar; 4 speed, 300 horse 302 ford small block.. Yeah i have the need for power! lol

I have installed headers on two of my n/a diesels in the past (I still drive one today). It does make a difference, especially on the highway. The headers are Pace Setters, from JC Whitney, cost was 110.00 great fit and did not crack. Add a flex-joint and a cherry bomb or glass pack type muffler with 2.5" piping, and enjoy.

I have the original 8V GTI exhaust (including manifold) on mine, and it's pretty good on the highway. Hills kill it still, but on the flat, it can maintain 75mph fairly easily which is a lot better than other similar horsepower gasoline cars that I've owned.

I think it would work great. I would also add that if you take that stock airbox and cut a hole in it and run some 3 or 4 inch pipe with the header it will do wonders. The best thing I did with my na was put 3" into the airbox and turn up the fuel a little. With the stock 4 speed I could do 85 on SR 30 going to canton easily. I also had 2.5" all the way back with glass packs for mufflers.
The first time I realized that I could do 85 was by accident. Before I would floor it and the hills would keep me in the legal speed range of 65-70 MPH. Doing the same thing I didn't even realize it until I looked down "holy sh!!" It was fun to drive.
