http://www.ebay.com/itm/2g-DSM-eclipse-talon-95-99-Turbo-stock-oem-side-mount-intercooler-SMIC-/360499142842?fits=Model:Eclipse&hash=item53ef6c60ba&item=360499142842&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

Something like this?

I don't even see how that could be integrated properly.  It looks like one of the outlets is smaller then the other.  How bizzare!

And kaneb, as far as all these IC talks, what chassis application are you talking about?  MK1?  2?

Which do the Supra/Probe ICs fit best in?

mkdos

starion intercooler fits beautifully in mk2! need pics?

wait.. air conditioning!!

you want something thinner than a starion cooler, again, maybe the supra cooler.. its been used in a setup that retained the stock a/c..

sprinter diesel cooler ive heard works as well.. fits AROUND the radiator..

i ran both my inlet and outlet from behind the same side of the radiator.. all my boost tubing (turbo intake, boost to cooler, and boost to engine) all run down the passenger side of the car. it makes the passenger side a bit busy, but the rest of my engine bay is un-cluttered..

look on ebay for intercoolers, just for the pictures, it will give you an idea of what will and wont fit..

inlet and outlet on the same side is a big plus..

only way i would see a 1.8t cooler working, is if you moved the radiator back.., they are pretty thick (thicker than my starion cooler, and i SHOULD move my radiator back, but didnt..

considering that the tank wasnt even mounted to anything, i doubt mounting was the issue..

the tank didnt split either, it came un-crimped off the core..

starion ICs are a very good choice for mk1-3 VWs.. im sure they can be used in later cars as well..

How much you lookin for Trav?

ive seen them sell for anywhere between 30-100 dollars..

i picked mine up for 30 bucks  :P

it really makes it easy to install them, being that the inlet and outlet are on the same side..

im thinking of putting it down by driver side wheel.

not much flow there, and not much room for boost tubing or the like...

in front of the radiator is the best place.. it makes boost tube routing easier, allows for much better air flow across the cooler, and looks much cleaner..

the 1.8t cooler takes up more room than there is in front of the tire under the fender.. its a fairly bulky unit.

you would likely have to build shrouds and such, to direct air towards it, and keep rocks and road debris from damaging it..

Only thing i dont see is how i can fit tubing up on that side with airbox there. looks like a good one though. What if i mounted it low inside the bumper would it fit as far as radiator and ac condesner clearence..

Like in the bumper's air opening?  IDK, that thing looks too tall for that kind of application.  The universal aftermarket ones actually do well for that spot since they are short and thick as opposed to tall and thin.

I thought the MK2 had enough under-hood clearance that you could pass a boost pipe over the valve cover.  You could also clock the turbo outlet downwards and run the boost pipe under the harmonic crank pulley like the mk4 and mk5's do stock.  Run the turbo hose to the lower IC inlet, and route the rest of the pipe in front of the engine.  Only snag I see in this setup is clearing the passenger axle, but the mk4/5's did it, so why couldn't we find a way?

As far as the ID-to-intake routing, Jack's Lack did it the way I described.  Ignore the turbo-to-IC routing (and the fact that it's a MK1) for the purpose of this discussion:
