I don't know how much weaker the 1Z crankshaft is compeared to AHU crank. But the 1Z cylinderblock is quite weak compeared to AHU or AFN block. If you are planning on pulling some serious power out of the 1Z I'd switch to AHU Cylinderblock.
AAZ and 1Z bottom ends will hold up just fine to approx. 170-200HP. The low end torque is what kills tose engines. Aki-76 had in his AAZ about 260hp/420Nm/2.6bar and the stock bottom en held up becouse the engine was giving the power in high revs. The redline was at ~6500.When VW moved from 1Z to AHU bottom end they made some reinforcements to the engine block. AHU engine block is capable of handling power at least up to 300HP.
