Changing a 1.6 GTD mk2 golf Waterpump

After taking alternator and everything off i can't see a way of getting the alternator bracket off to get the waterpump off without moving the diesel pump and taking off the cambelt, am i right..??
Or am i being stupid and there's another way i haven't seen?

Did you remove the bolt from the top that conenct to the injection pump bracket ? I assume you removed the 3 bolts to the block as well ?

I havent removed any of the pump bolts yet or removed the cambelt, as wasn't sure if i had to or not?

Do you have a Bently ? The local library here has one ;-)
Don't touch the cam belt unless you plan on re-timing the engine. That said, how old is the cam belt ? If your pump is failing and your belt has not been changed, it might be time to change it too. Remember, this engine will break parts if the cam belt jumps or breaks.
Anyway, some of the bolts for the alternator bracket do indeed hold the water pump on.

I have a new Cambelt and tensioner now, I don't have bentley but could do with it.
Yes going to have to take the cambelt off to and replace with a new one, and re-time the engine, which someone said it would be easier to do if i slacken off the cam pulley bolt.
Does anyone have a copy of bentley or know where i can find the info by a link please.

The cast iron looking alternator bracket has 2 bolts at the top that are a c*nt to get off.
Not impossible, but a c*nt non the less.
You just need to slacken, or remove the aux belt.
Alt off.
Alt bracket off.
pipes off.
Pump off.

I always just took the 8 bolts or 9 and the stud or whatever and unbolt the waterpump from the big chunk that bolts under the IP. That is unless I can't get enough heat on the bolts and they all break and I have to take the entire thing off. Your question on the timing of the belt, yes you have let the cam gear spin to get the timing perfect. Bentley is your friend...and the proper timing tools.
