sorry, but i just had a thought, and i want to run it past you guys to make sure it will work

ok no one thinks this is gona work but imagine a big power caddy, i now have a m45 charger and charge cooler good for 400bhp and i will be buying a gt28 soon too, so with a load of other mods im hoping for 350 bhp, but there lies a problem, what kind of transmission will take the amout of torque that will produce?

well it got me thinking, acording to my breakers yard the one thing they cant sell is LT van gearboxes, because they are over engineered and never go wrong. if i flipped my engine around and ran that with an audi S6 rear diff and active axle which also never go wrong i could be on to a winner. the LT will be realy low ratio because they top out at about 3.5k so i might get sum pretty good speed out of it, surly after being in a 2.5 ton truck mine will feel like nothing.

An LT is rear wheel drive right. Well anything can be done ,but if you are willing , have the equipment and time o do it, go ahead. Obviously you are looking at some major engineering to do. To answer your original question, yes to transmission should be able to handle it. Be biggest issue would be the interface between engine and trans esp the clutch.

Surely the caddy has very little weight in the back? Unless your planning on loading it up before a run.

Shadowmaker on the tdiclub has 350 odd bhp in his (2ton) T4, thats still FWD and i'm almost positive he's using the gearbox off the 102bhp 2.5tdi. As far as I know the bellhousing bolts on the inline 5 are the same as the 4 cylinder.
I wouldn't be suprised if that with slicks and the weight of the motor over it gave as much traction off the line

will a dual mass clutch off a mk5 fit the LT box? as for the box not matching up i cud make a spacer plate for the bell housing and a spacer on the end of the crank to match.
after going out in a 200SX i want to be able to drift :lol:
but for the quater mile i could put on sum big slicks and my mate recons that if i use sum kind of ford axle it will dig in as i put the power down and recons that if i got enough torque i will get the front wheels off the ground. like what they use on the big yank tanks. im not sure but FWD is a bit boring.
i dont want to use a gear box that MIGHT work fine, if i have to spend 3 months engineering a gear box to fit that will last forever then its worth it to me. my driving style is slightly agressive so id rather play it safe

BTW anyone know where the starter motor goes on an LT?

All pick-up rear axles have LSD, i.e my Ford Ranger, I don't know how much power they can take though, should be reasonably cheap and they are the live axle type you are after. Same thing on the Hilux, Navara, Isuzu Rodeo, older L200/shogun sport, Ranger/B2500.

a 02M will take that power, no problem, only weak point are the forks, if you cannot shift a manual transmission, so don't have the patience for the gear to engage you break the fork, cheap repair altough, could be improved so they'll not fail;; and it's fwd..

LT gearbox seems heavy and lumpy..
