Serpentine belt conversion... ebay Item number: 2481398093
« on: June 11, 2004, 06:57:18 pm »
I just bought a cherry 1990 jetta with 1.6, had the head rebuilt, fixed all the leaks, and this belt issue is the last item to get solved.  For some reason, my alternator belt keeps stretching, and the a/c belt eventually shreds (within 300-400 miles or so).   My guess is the alternator is on the way out, and stresses the a/c belt to the point of disintegration.  Has anyone changed out the belts to a serpentine drive ?  What did it cost ?  Was it worth it ?   I have to buy an alternator anyway, so since the ebay item has an alternator already, seems like a deal.  Any comments ?
