Jezebelle Lives Up To Her Name - Broken Accelerator Lever!
« on: December 18, 2008, 11:15:40 am »
So while driving to work yesterday morning my accelerator pedal suddenly dropped to the floor and my revs dropped to idle. Fun fun...

Got the car over to the side and took a look - I was expecting a broken throttle cable or something but my actual accelerator lever on the top of the pump was broken in two! The part of the arm with the ball stud for the cable to attach to is snapped clean off!

Well, I got the car the rest of the way to work using my fast idle... Amazing how much torque these cars have down on the bottom end of their range, it was actually quite driveable that way... I fabricated a throttle lever arm out of a bit of metal and a couple bolts I had with me to get me home again, but this is really only a temporary fix.

Now I need to find a new throttle lever for this thing! The motor is about an '88 1.6TD. Anyone have a spare lever off a broken pump they can spare, or know where I can find one?

Thanks!!!!

When you get it replaced, you might want to check your linkage travel. Maybe when you peddle was pushed to the stop, the stop was the IP and all the extra pressure of your foot trying to get extra power was translated to the IP. Just a guess.
