Does anyone know the difference between ABL and AAZ engine?
« on: November 30, 2008, 04:06:13 pm »
As above please guys.

I have found a healthy running AAZ code engine out of a 90k mile VW T4 (the same van as mine) and it is at a very good price. I am seriously thinking of buying it and rebuilding my engine at leisure and reselling it or keep as a spare!

Can anyone tell me the difference between the two please?

eg/ will the AAZ motor fit into my 1997 1.9TD T4 straight swap or near straight swap?

My TD doesnt have an ECu and nor does this AAZ TD. Im sure ive read on here they are near identical but I couldnt find the post :(

If they arent identical, what are the differences please if anyone knows?

Thanks

Update/ i have found this information that Baxter has previously posted to this question

Differences between ABL and AAZ that I am aware of...

ABL has an extra water outlet on the head, only small, it goes to the header tank.

ABL block isn't drilled for a dipstick tube.

At some point the valve stem size on the AAZ reduced from 8mm to 7mm, these apparently flow better.
I don't think this happened to the ABL and they all have 8mm valve stems.

Then, obviously the injection pump.

not sure if any other differences exist
