trying to fit vw rev counter to my gtd mk2
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:50:21 pm »
Hi all. I have a '91 GTD and i have just fitted a set of rev counter clocks to it. It originally had a speedo and an analogue clock. The rev counter clocks that i fitted were working perfectly in the donor car so i think it's a wiring issue. i reckon that i have to bring a wire from the alternator to somewhere  Any help greatly appreciated, Cheers..Shane

ok been doing a bit of reading on the subject and seemingly i should have a red black wire sticking out of the w-terminal in the alternator. I seem to have a green wire with a male spade on the end of it??? Any ideas??? Cheers..Shane

Well you don't seem to be getting much help here.

You need to verify you have the "W" terminal on the alternator then you need to get a Bentley and follow the wiring diagram to get it where you need it.

Most of the time the wire is already there you just need to find it.

Well the wire I'm referring to is in the engine bay, should be part of the Alt harness and if not already plugged into the "W" terminal it should be hanging close by. Red I think.

If you have a Cluster with a Tach in there now and you plug this wire into the alt it will work, the wire is already ran to the cluster from the factory.

Does your alt have the "W" Terminal?

Hello and thanks for reply. I think it has the w-terminal ok. It has a green wire coming from the alternator with a male spade on it??? So i guess it's a case of trying to trace that taco wire and take it from there?? Cheers Shane

Yes exactly, that wire "should" be already ran to the cab and in the plug attached to the cluster.
