I've put up with this for a while, but thought now was the time to have a go at it. Any suggestions on where to start first? Anybody BTDT ?
Thanks,

Could it be your relay?

MK1s don't come with intermittent. You need to add it in. If you look at your fuse panel you should see a large metal jumper piece connecting 2 sockets. Remove this and put in a wiper relay from a mk2 and you should have intermittent.

You're good Tyler....very very good.
Here's my obscure "blast from the past" Rabbit memory... there may also be a plastic wedge on the wiper control stalk that's preventing it from going down into the "intermittent" position.

Nah... just tripped me up once working on my shiny red 1979 Rabbit back in the day. Ah... the memories...

I had that problem for a while untill I got a used relay, then intermittent and high/low worked. But the auto stop only works sometimes  every now and then I have to pop the relay out and smack it on something.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.
I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
