I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes and after 30 seconds of running the engine light came on again

you could try disconnecting both battery terminals ,wait 5 seconds, touch them together [make sure neither one is still attached to the battery] for 10 seconds, them reconnect to battery.
well, i took the negative off and left it.
The clock in the dash read 12:00

Yes if you REMOVE both from the battery and touch them together with even just a small gauge wire it should kill any memory in the ECM

It will help if you have the key in th "On" position as well.
I dont think disconnecting the battery or even 50 cycle ignition can erase the code in OBD2, it work for the older car and truck below 1997 or 1996 but not after.
Anyway the code will reappear again and again if you do not fix the real problem.

But i thought i did fix the real problem?
A dead glow plug... i found it and changed it...
Edit: Tintin is right. I did connect them together and the light still comes on.
Ya it's going to need to be reset with a VAG I'm guessing.
