I would be interested in one for my 85. I haven't got it back form the machinist yet to measure piston protrusion. Depends on the price though...I would rather have 2 gaskets for that price. How low will he go?

I dont know how low he will go?? he had just mentioned the quantity price break briefly and honestly I cant really wait for a group buy situation anyway..I'm gonna order two gaskets from him...if they look good when I get them, THEN we could/should try a GB or something to help bring the price down??
after blowing my fiber HG on on the test drive of my build...I would pay $200 a piece for a GOOD MLS gasket....stock gaskets suck!!! and I know I wont be able to stay away from at least 20psi..so I need something to make this head stay in place.
I will keep you guys updated!! 8)

I plan to run a 1.9 MLS but currently i have a factory fiber gasket. Gonna use ARP and MLS just for security, but i don't think the factory fibers are that bad.

In an effort to get my car that has been sitting for 10 plus years we pulled the head to replace the head gasket. We sanded the head and block with some fine sandpaper and one of the steel blocks found on the front subframe. Only had a 2 notch even though the engine had a 1 notch on it. Slapped it together and have been pushing 20 psi since. Also with just new stretch bolts.

man I don't know what's with with my fiber gasket...it sucked big time on my car.
arp studs+fiber HG+20psi=blown in 2 spots
maybe I have high drive pressure with my hybrid turbo????
I would never trust running 20psi daily on a fiber HG...I thought I could after reading the forums..but if it was me I would not waste my time with fiber..even more if your running big boost....

Not to doubt your checks, but how assiduously did you check your head for straightness? I imagine that a perfectly flat head wouldn't blow out a fiber headgasket even at 25+ PSI, but one that's a touch out of plane would probably let go much earlier.

Balance of forces and all that.

The head was COMPLETELY gone through at the machine shop and was planed flat.
It was a strange situation for sure, he didn't even use a cheap gasket it was a German gasket from Myke if I remember correctly but sure a sh*t it was blown.
He did mention the studs "felt" different when he went for a retorque.

Once he gets a MLS in there and buttons it up I don't see him having another problem.

both my block and head got decked....
if I was to blame it on something I would say it should have been retqed...before I drove it...I think if I would have it may have lasted longer.
factory service manuals says that on a fiber gasket you need to torque the head down..start it and let it run to operating temp(with NO coolant Pressure)..shut it off let it cool...then retorque....I did not reTQ..and when I did finally reTQ the studs were not evenly clamped...some took more turns then the others..
I need to get a drive pressure gauge!! just to make sure I'm not way out of spec on my DP....

ok guys if you want a custom MLS gasket for your 1.6 then yes it can happen!
my gaskets showed up to Thailand yesterday! and John at gaskets to go sent me a quote on the 3 different thicknesses...
he said he can not guarantee the sizes....SO the VW spec of 1.57mm(2notch) would be a 1.50mm from gaskets to go and the VW spec of 1.61(3notch) would be 1.60mm
anybody see any problems with the sizing??

prices....
1.4mm-1.5mm=$139.95......if we buy more then 5 it's $129.95
1.6mm=$149.95......if we buy more then 5 it's $139.95

$12.95 for shipping.....and $6.00 for each extra gasket you have shipped...

if anybody wants one/some let me know we will try to work something out....

ok guys the more I think about it the more I don't want to mess with any money exchanging or reshipping just to save $10....its not really worth it to me...and as you guys know my car is in pieces in my shop and I wanna get it running sooner then later....So if you want a gasket call john using "skype" link on gasketstogo.com he is VERY easy to deal with.

and if you wanna wait for me to get mine then that's fine...I will be posting pics/opinions of the gasket soon as I get it...
i'm gonna get a 2 notch and a 3 notch.....
