I just put an AAZ motor in my 82 Caddy and the pump I had redone at the local bosch repair shop is a bag of ***. I don't want to deal with it anymore, I'd rather just find a good used one to put on it. If I had the cash I'd get a giles pump but my budget just won't carry that right now. If anyone has one they want to sell please send me a pm and I'll get back to you. I have a lot of 1.6TD and NA stuff some heads and pumps and other things if someone wants to barter.

seems like prothe isnt the only one with pump issues... if only more people knew about Giles pumps...

I got an injection pump today from a guy in Toronto, he shipped it last week to me here in Maine via UPS. It was 180 bux shipped and it works fine. HOW SWEET IT IS. :lol: Anyone care to tell me how to adjust the idle speed on these pumps? I've never had one before or even worked on one till this past month or so. How does the high idle work? There was a vacuum valve on the pump that pulled the linkage on the back but that's not going to work in an A1. I haven't even pulled the cold start cause while I was installing the pump today the block heater was warming the thing up. Does pulling the cold start make the idle go up like the 86 to 92 1.6 cars? :?:

From the sounds of it you have the vacuum actuated fast idle. Pulling the cold start out will only advance the timing. You need to figure out a way to have an on/off source of vacuum to the canister on top of the pump. Most gas VWs should have the solenoid you need, and then just tie it into your main vacuum line and wire it up.

ok thanks Tyler. I took the can off before I installed the pump and I'm not going to bother with it, too much bs for me. To be honest with ya, I've always wedged a piece of wood between the top of the gas pedal and the brake pedal to get a fast idle during cold weather. :lol: but what about the warm idle speed what do you do back out the vertical stop screw on the top rear of the pump? the one closest to the driver's side of the vehicle? It's vertical not the horizontal one the throttle stops on never fool with that one unless you have low residual pressure yes?

It sounds like you are describing the proper screw to turn. Definitly not the horizontal one.
