I'm new to this list and I've got a question regarding Dub TIDI engines.
I'm looking to put together a high-economy commuter car for my wife (she puts on about 90 miles per day).
I know where I can get a nice 924 with a blown engine. As it uses a VW/Audi engine, there should be no problem bolting up a 1.6 or 1.9 IDI turbo diesel to the clutch housing, and the front motor mounts should not be too bad either. What concerns me is that the motor in the 924 is rotated 40 degrees to the left, as you look at the front of the car.
As I see it, this would rerquire a modified oil pan and oil pickup, also the drain on the turbo would need to be "clocked" around to drain down. I know that the KKK I mounted on my diesel LandCruiser could be clocked, is that true of the units used on TIDI's as well?
Can anyone think of any other potential stumbling blocks that I've missed? I think this would make a great commuter car, and should give excellent fuel economy. It's a little heavier then an A1 Volksy at 2400#, but I think that it's aero shape would more than make up for that at highway speed.
