experience needed on pump settings
« on: June 28, 2005, 08:34:30 pm »
Im still trying to figure out my pump for my 1.6L TD.

ive been keeping a log book of milage/economy...

over the winter i got approx 35mpg (14.9km/L) and so far this summer and last around 40-42mpg (17.0-17.8km/L). Ive tried making sure everything is set by the book. i just checked the timing and its at .040" (1.01mm) and the compression is 435-475psi. Starts fine and all even in winter with 222,000mi (355,000km).  Ive tried turning the fueling screw up and down (up was kinda fun - but had serious smoke at full boost 9psi and no extra enrichment - LDA was diconnected at one point to test). Right now as it sits..no smoke until about 4psi (very light haze)(LDA hooked up and star wheel turned CCW). Kinda putt putt but still my economy should be higher from what ive read. I run about 50/50 city/hwy. Top end is about 90mph (140kmh) and i have 185/70r13 tires on steel rims of of a 79 Audi Fox.  I run power service at every tank full, 15w-40 delvac mobil oil, 75w-90 syn mobil oil in tranny (done last fall), removed a/c system (was dead)

Hopefully that gives some idea of what to do to help me. i do wanna get intercooler someday and larger exhaust (downipe is gonna be a problem)

Ill have more questions but this will get me started.  Thanks. i know theres a ton of posts on here about mods and im interested (inc gov mod), but trying to get economy up is more priority instead.
