I just rebuilt my engine (1.9 GTD), and now i hear a loud CLACKING NOISE.
i tripple checked my timing and it is 100% ok. It must be a lifter.
the question is: if i open the valve cover, will i be able to see which lifter is bad?
How do you identify a bad lifter?
i wonder if cracking an injector line open might show the bad cylinder? because it isn't firing right from the bad lifter, if you cut fuel it shouldn't really affect the motor? or is that only for very serious lifter issues?
i will check that today!
Got oil pressure? Rev it some, the lifter might just need to fill w/ oil and it's taking it's time about it.
short length of garden hose ( or heater hose) to your ear .. other end to valve cover ... move hose along while the motor is running ... you should be able to narrow it down ( loudest clacking )
then stop engine , remove valve cover , move cam till the lobes are UP for the bad cylinder ...... then press on the tops of the 2 followers ( one will move easy ... the bad one) .....
setup for belt removal .. TDC , cam locked, IP locked ... remove CAM , swap lifter (s) , replace cam, reinstall BELT , retime and adjust pump, reinstall valve cover ...
OR is it just Knocking from a drained injector line ( run at fast Idle for 5 MINS and see if it goes away )
