I've been reading about this mod, and I have a couple of questions. Firstly, the threads say that it stops your engine running out of power at higher revs. Well, I've not really noticed this. Since I replaced the fuel hoses to remove air line bubbles, it's smooth and even all the way up to where the limiter basically slams on the brakes (engine-wise, of course, not the actual brakes  ). Would I see even more pick up at higher engine speeds?
Secondly, is it seriously safe to hit 6krpm? That's higher than I've ever seen a diesel rev.. what do I risk doing this?
It would just be smooth to higher revs, slowly declining in power due to engine efficiencies causing a drop off in power. Diesels make torque, not high rpm power unless you do lots of serious mods and loose the low rpm torque in the process. In that case, you might as well get a gasser.
My big thing is trying to get it as smooth as possible in the higher rev range, since that's my big annoyance with the car - and cos of the ridiculously short gearbox it's where I end up driving all the time
Well that wont change.
You will experience smoother accell as jimfoo mentioned but it will do nothing to smooth out the engine on the upper rpms.
Hi
i just changed my 5 speed to the TDI tranny "CTN" and wow
what a difference on the highway.
i can cruise now at 80 MPH and still be about 3000 rpm
