ok guys,
i'm rebuilding a genuine Garrett T3 from a 1.6 to put on my aaz, but i've run into a problem getting the exhaust housing off.
the turbo feels pretty good - minimal shaft play and theres no blade damage, but since i have a kit for it i thought why not rebuild it?
removed all of the turbine housing retainer bolts that hold the retainer ring on, and managed to un-sieze the housing-core union which had rusted together a bit. now i can turn that union freely, but i cant pull the housing off still. its clearly loose and theres now about 1.5mm axial movement, but it wont come off.
i'm worried about forcing it - any suggestions?
btw - wastegate is fixed to exhaust housing and doesnt connect anywhere else.
bump - surely a few of you guys have pulled apart a t3 or two...
Penetrating oil and a Brass hammer..
hmm... its been soaking in wd40 for a week...
maybe i should just be a bit more persuasive...
FYI - pulling apart rusty old turbo's...
finally got hte t3 apart, very easily, gently and simply: use a harmonic balancer puller!
the puller can easily be bolted onto the exhaust studs of the turbine exit, and centered perfectly over the turboshaft. you can then gently tighten the puller so as to press out the turbine/bearing assy from the tubine housing.
easy!
