thinking about the possibility of puting the running gear from my golf into a 95 chevy cavelier.. any thoughts. its a pretty aerodynamic car but it weighs a lot too..dunno just in the thinking stages now

Since the Fiero power train was an off the shelf package ( I-4) from another GM front wheel drive car, it should be easier than most. You would not have the heat caused fire hazard the v-6 versions had before they decided to stop production. Also, the plastic body would never rust out and the unibody might actually last as long as your engine if you rust proof it.

Fiero has plenty of room, some folks in the past have done small block V8 swap.
and if you wanna take it up another level, some kit-car companies offer a complete [ re-body ] and make it into a ferrari look-alike.

I get after you pull the engine you could get $100 - $200 for it since it runs. That's what I did with the gasser I took out of my caravan for my diesel conversion.

Someday I plan on putting a diesel (probably VW, maybe Toyota if I can find one) in my 71 Toyota Hilux, it's a very small/light 2wd PU. it'll be a while till I get to that project though.

My dream swap would still be a 1.9TD in QSW. I miss my Syncro's and old Quattro's, they are all gone in this area, i know of a few sitting around here and there, but they have all seen 20+ VT winters.

I'm not a big fan of Fiero's (or cavaliers!), but a 914 would be kick ass!

Here's a pic of my Samurai, VW's swap nicly into these, it's a great swap.
I'll post some under hood pics at some point.

There is a kit available for that swap isn;t there? I seem to remeber somthing about that when looking into dropping a Cummins 4bt in a Cherokee years ago...

I'm not a big fan of the Fiero but I'd love to have my little diesel (and it's MPG's) in something rear wheel drive.. I had looked into swapping one in a Triumph TR6 but then I realized I couldn't fit in the damn thing..

Triumph would be cool, or maybe a 924? they can be found cheap, many with engine problems, and they have the trans in the rear like a 944 (I think) They're a damn cool, underappreciated car, this may be a good option!

Someone was talking about an Opel GT, this would be cool, but I think an Opel Manta is even better, another very underappreciated car (I used to have one that I autoX'sd, it was always the only one there).

There are adaptors for the suzuki 5 spd (nice and small trans, has divorced t case so it will easily work in a 2wd ap) and Toyota trans. Overall would be a pretty small package that would probably fit in a variety of vehicles. as always though, any of these swaps are alot easier said then done!

The 2 things that keep holding me back from swapping a vw diesel into somethin rwd is finding somethin rwd that is light enough, and not a total and complete rust bucket.. Still searchin for a solid Pinto or Mustang II to drop this 2.4 Benz Diesel in...

Oh man, now I'm all worked up on 924's!, they're out there for cheap!
It appears that the engine also bolts into Audi's and looks very much like a VW. It sits at somewhat of a slant (very similar to vanagon)
The trans seems to be the same as 944, in the back connected with drive shaft!
You know, an AAZ may bolt right in to those? That would be the ultimate diesel sports car swap! Sweeeet!
What an outstanding autoX'r that would be!!!!
