Just as I thought, my timing was WAAAAYYYY out after putting the on. now it runs awesome. I cannot believe it's the same car
Of course it's still only a 1.6D N/A, but the pump still makes a HUGE difference. Not abooot the HP numbers, but the torque is instatly there at low RPM, it now feels like driving a modern diesel. There is also a VERY noticable difference at higher RPM, going in 5th from 80-120, I think the time it takes now is about half compared to what it was. Still not sure about fuel consumption, but I'll find out soon enough. All in all it is a giant improvement. Makes me really wonder why VW didn't build the pump like this at the first place. I'll post fuel figues once I kill a tank.
call giles.
If you had him do it I am sure he won't want it messed with unless absolutely needed, but I don't know for sure ask him. and he is the one that should be able to tell you what to do as well. If it is a turbo you could increase the amount of boost to get rid of some smoke.
If you must mess with the fueling check out the faq section on how to make the 1.6 a faster car.
What was your timing set at to begin with? What is it at now?
Well I have a very hard time admitting it, it was 1.10
Now it's 0.95 dead on. It sounded like a bad harvester, tonns of smoke and ran hot. Now it's perfect. I drove it on the hwy now and I can say again WOW. Huge improvement in acceleration all the way to the end
Get a set of headers from a gasser, a bigger exhaust, port the head and then you'll really be rocking! How about a close ratio tranny with an overdrive fifth?
