Do my injectors need an overhaul?
« on: October 17, 2008, 11:51:44 am »
Hi folks,

I've got a 1.9 TD Passat Estate (wagon), and it's running pretty well despite nearly 180k miles and 15 years.  But I was wondering about the conditions of the injectors.  The car's pretty smooth when driving below about 2.5krpm, but when you get up to higher revs (which I do on the motorway thanks to the low ratio transmission :( ) there's a certain amount of vibration.  It's not a lot, but it's annoying.  It's got a kind of thrumming quality, kind of like a V6 I suppose, so it sounds as if maybe the injectors aren't behaving equally in all cylinders.

So the question is, what are the symptoms of ailing injectors?  If that doesn't sound like my problem, have you guys got any other ideas? :)

Well with that many miles on it I think I would get them rebuild you can jump on the Group Buy for injectors tips going on right now and take advantage of a lower price.

How does it idle? Usually a rough idle is a good sign of bad injectors. Lots of smoke in the higher RPMs as well as hanging RPMs are also symptoms.

At that mileage though, it probably wouldn't hurt to have them done

Well it idles perfectlty, so I suppose the injectors are probably fine.

Just noticed today though whilst putting a can of decoking spray through that when the revs are up, loads of air bubbles are introduced into the fuel line.  I think it's at the fuel filter though, because the bubbles appear as soon as I blip the throttle, there's no lag.

I'm off to search the forums now :)
