My Jetta has the dreaded worn crankshaft nose keyway and a friend of mine was making me a drillguide to put 4 3/16" dowel pins in to try and not have to replace the crankshaft. Well, it's finally done and here are some pics:
I've already picked up the dowel pins and I need to find a bolt that's long enough to pass through the drill guide, the timing gear, engage the crankshaft with enough threads to prevent stripping or movement during drilling, and also with a small enough head so I can drill the holes in the crank. I also need to get a new crankshaft bolt (either the grade 10.9 bolt like Jet A did or the OEM bolt from the dealer, haven't decided yet).
I'll probably tackle this job this weekend after I go up north of Seattle to pick up the rear license plate filler panels for my Jetta. I'll also post pics taken during the drilling process.

Duane, I had asked him what it would cost to make another one and he said the man-hours that it took to machine the guide and the cost of the stock would put the price at around $300 to $400 due to the fact that all of the machine work would has to be done manually. He did it for me as a favor and I owe him big time for it.
I have the Parasolid CAD File (also known as a Modeller Transmit File) so that a drill guide jig can be made on a CNC machine if you would like me to send it to you. I was quoted between $200 to $250, which included materials, to have a machine shop make one on their CNC.

Did you guys see this?

Gotta be cheaper than that. I can vouch for the guy's reputation too, he built a bomb-proof front crossmember brace for my Scirocco.

GoKraut is the one who emailed me the CNC file. The $200 was what I was quoted by a local machine shop here in Renton, WA to have them machine me the part and included all materials. The price of $300 to $400 was what my friend said it would cost for them to buy the bar stock, drill bits, and the man-hours involved in manually machining the part since he didn't have a CNC milling machine.
I'm sure you can find a machine shop locally that can handle the template file and make the part on the CNC mill. I think my friend made the part for me as a favor and also because he considered it a challenge to try and make it, he's just that kind of person.
