TDI Beetle Running this year's Baja 1000 on Grease

Hey Guys,

Figured those here would enjoy hearing about some diesel racing. Justin (handle 'Greasecar') and Ethan (handle 'turbofan') are out in california building a vehicle for this year's baja 1000 (held in november). The donor engine is from a '98 beetle tdi (alh i believe) put together with a full custom race frame, custom transmission, etc. etc. As many of you probably know, VW raced the Touareg diesel last year and won its class (though it wasn't actually competing against anyone....but hey, finishing is pretty damn impressive). Obviously, we don't have anywhere near the budget, but are trying to build up a competitive diesel racer. We've got a good team together with a lot of experience on racing baja vehicles with tony steingraber and crew as well obvious diesel and vegetable oil experience with justin and ethan. The plan is to get the car running by the end of this week so that tony can get some runs in before the big race. That's COOL! I live next to the St. Anthony Sand Dunes in SE Idaho and we've got tons of sand-rails out here every summer. I'd love to do the BAJA, and in a TDI Veggie non-the-less would be way sweet.
